hippies here

wear three hundred dollar
mou shoes
in used record shops
across santa fe
not natives
they are well-pierced and too-ed
happy in their monied hippie bubble
isn’t that a conundrum
contradiction
words that do not belong next to one another
i suppose
it could mean
environmentalist
freethinker
lover
poets
or
kids trying hard to make an identity
like split infinitives
of time
i see her
my hippie
sister
also privileged
and bold
smelling of patchouli and sage
wearing no bra
and discarding the t-shirt
whenever possible
better if not allowed
