trending in the right direction

i remember the very second i knew i was leaving
hot day
bad coffee
a fight
time
to
run

i knew that a geographic wasn’t going to fix me
but
perhaps bring another crop of women
even men friends
into my orbit
i could reset
reboot
start again
in ontario

i didn’t check the weather
i liked the name of the place
the winter freeze months chilled my enthusiasm
for snow
and work sucked
my apartment smelled bad
and i found myself embedded with people from work
with no more hope than i’d had that afternoon
throwing the coffee out
in a gesture that inspired me
to leave
cool
retreat to somewhere new
where i wasn’t known
my habits in repair
addictions
less so
but
trending in the right direction
