This time would be different, thought the happy cashier as he returned to work. A different store with global roots and a billionaire with a rocket company. But it all started here in Austin, Texas on Lamar, not far from the corporate mothership. I was born here. I grew up with Whole Foods Market.
I’d heard that the Amazon take over was rough. From what I can see, Bezos has streamlined the grocery services and enhanced the market for healthy produce, products, and even influencing healthy lifestyles.
Earth > Billionairs
If all you are interested in is money or power, you’re missing the point of life. People are the currency in later life. The love you give… You know the saying.
Today, several Bond-level villains have appeared. Harming the planet, abandoning the people not in their caste, and demanding austerity while they want a tax cut worth trillions that will trickle down as debt to our great-grandchildren. But, if Musk thinks he’s going to escape Earth with all of his kids, various concubines, and money… Wait, in space, money is worth nothing. It’s the people, fool.
Not to get too far off track, but if Mr. Musk had put his 44 billion dollars into improving the lives of others rather than buying Twitter, well, he’d be showing himself to be other than the neuro-challenged narcissist he is. His buddy, the president, could go with him. These “leaders” can about none of us. Power and money—more power—more money, no matter what laws you break, who you hurt, or how many people you leave behind.
The Happy Cashier doesn’t discuss politics with his customers. It would be like shouting at the river on a sunny day. “Why so bright this morning! You are hurting my eyes!” There is no politics of people and love. Only today’s version of power at any cost.
It’s time we know: 99% of us are greater than the 1% who are pulling the levers and puppet strings. Even the cashiers know an uprising is coming. In our store, in our culture, in our community, we’re of the working class, not the owning class.
The last six months have been some of the hardest days I’ve been through. It does feel like the serpent hidden at the bottom of the cave is waking and raising his voice. It’s time for the 99% to reassess the priorities of our government. Back towards serving the most of us, not the least of us.

The hope I see in others
becomes the hope I have for myself,
my life, and my own journey.
