srsly – does this seem like some elaborate cosmic joke to you?

Is anything really real these days?

What is your info tap? Where do you suck down the news of the world? Is it just the US-World or the Global-World that you’re listening to/for? Kinda important. I don’t do very well. I like the New York Times and The New Yorker. I pay for both. I believe in journalism and creative or critical writing.

That’s my new mantra to slow down my racing thoughts. Last night, as a result of playing tennis for two hourse in sub-40 temps, my body shook with chills about 30 minutes after I got home. I started to get anxious. I began breathing. Slowing the breath. And this work (this book – or experiment – whatever you want to call it) brought up a new answer.

Read – filter what you take in. Read good works. Read the masters. The classics. The experimental. The new. The bold. The alt.universe stuff. Like an auto of Bruce Springsteen or perhaps Robin, the posthumous bio of Robin Williams. Read. It’s how your mind absorbs new patterns, new concepts, new geometrical maps. Read and you will never be alone, lonely, or unimaginative.

Reading is Imagination’s Input Channel.

Write – output. By writing, I formalise the pattern recognition. I capture new phrases surfaced by the Magic Eight Ball of my mind: blurry question, and blurrier response, “Outlook Not Good.” Readwritedream when it first appeared last night was out of order. You’ll see

It seemed more interesting as a phrase to me. “Write Read.” A bit more unique than “Read Write.” Also, “Read Right.” Meaning good/aspirational/critical/visionary writing. It’s all around us. So many humans are trying to map their thoughts, bring them back to share with others, and diving back into the freezing waters of the underground grotto that is your gray matter and the offline-stored memories. They’re not offline. They’re simply without power or light.

Dream – if you seek with your heart you will succeed. Even if the commercial success is not happening, many creative geniuses were penniless at their death. Orwell struggled his entire life. As did D. H. Lawrence. Vonnegut struggled for over 10 years before Slaughterhouse Five liberated his time with success. Kerouac had done much of his best writing before On the Road make him famous and consequently killed him from the success-drinking he fell into after his fame. It killed him.

Good news, you will not be killed by your fame. Neither will I.

The correct sequence is obvious to me now.

It’s a process for creative renewal. Read > provide new data sets > Write > capture as much as possible of the magic > Dream & Dream on.

DO NOT GIVE UP.

I think that about captures last night’s deep thoughts without a soundtrack, tonight, sometimes the brain/body just needs quiet, aloneness, and focus.
