i’m the cat

i’m the cat

one of these is me
the other my ex-wife
or my son
my fears of the future perhaps
what i know is
i’m the cat
it is raining
my son is sleeping
my ex-wife huffing glue
her husband in constant need of repair
from a doctor’s office
in a nearby town
it is all too much
this back and forth
batting the object between ourselves
for pleasure
let’s just kill the mouse
knock the glass off the table
break something
this interminable wait
is uncomfortable
now
and
now
is the time
