imagine
my dad’s horror
when he sobered up
due to chemo treatments
in a hospital bed
his new wife in nola
with her friend
his life tethered
by tubes and wires
more devastating
than handcuffs
more hospice
more real
as he
came
to
in lucid moments
terrified
to
angry
to a baby angel
ready to fly home
but we know
death is not that easy
no one
gets out alive
no comfort
like
blackness
