It was a great day off yesterday. My team lost their opening college football match, but hey… I am looking forward to taking Labor Day 2025 off, even as my corporate grocery employer gives time and a half for the day.

$16.32 x 1.5 = $24.48. Oh well.

I am happy staying in my role, keeping the good insurance while some of my other motions evolve into a job offer. That’s my plan. No response today, as I clock in at noon until 8:30. Two ten minute breaks and a thirty minute unpaid lunch. Woohoo.

Today I’ll focus on my joy. My mantra. And observing myself observing the river of life. Sort of a meta perspective on the meta perspective of the Happy Cashier.

And today, I’ll make one thing crystal clear: this is not a great job. I am destined and working hard to find my next gig. I don’t really want to go in today. I don’t want to see the woman who fired me a few days ago. I don’t even want to see her eat crow for jumping the gun. HR said they couldn’t legally do anything until the assessment was done. Guess what, the assessment ruled in my favor. Giving me back 28 hours of UPT. She can take that number anyway she likes. My ignorant team lead will ignore it. I don’t need to reapply for the “supervisor” role, I hope to not be here long enough for that to make a difference anyway.

As I move towards my departure, I’m still as happy as I was when I started. In fact, I’ve enjoyed this detour. My creativity bloomed, even under this strange pressure and persistent somnolent job, as I walk in circles around the self-checkout lanes. The “grocery life shuffle.” Trying to look busy when there’s no one in the store and nothing else to do. Straighten, front, polish, look busy. Repeat until death from boredom.

Not today. Not today.

See you at the store this afternoon.

The hope I see in others
becomes the hope I have for myself,
my life, and my own journey.
