orbits – a poem

orbits – a poem

i saw you today
a bit disheveled
holding your yoga mat
and walking the other way
i knew your loving glow
from 100 feet away
moving at 47 miles an hour
and even as the distance grew
between us
the connection
was not lost
i sit here
moments later
and know that you too are eating
a late lazy breakfast
on a fall sunday afternoon
and even as we move
in different orbits
we’re circling closer
as the time changes
and the days grow darker
colder
and more romantic
i will keep the inner warmth
with me
while i am awaiting your arrival
and nurture the hope
drawing you in
as the gravity of two planets
still distant
and out of sync
