i am feeling my age – a poem

i am feeling my age
and falling into disrepair
although people around me might beg to differ
i’ve not been well
a little gall removal is all
and some opioids
and a doctor too wise or stingy to give me more
or more powerful
and today i am off the pain meds
and i am tired
unhappy
looking a bit haggard in my selfies
with cutest girlfriend in the world
but the ocean is big
and the summer is near
and high times again, forever
and yet
today
it’s just enough
to wish you well
my son, my daughter
to hope you text me back
with a yes
