conjure you up – a poem

conjure you up – a poem

all this rushing and rushing
speeding and cursing under our breath
if they’d all just get out of our way
we could be where we needed to be
we could get to where our souls could rest
i am in a hurry to find you
not because i am impatient
but for the hunger
the growl
the spark of desire
i know would light your eyes
with an inner blaze
as you looked down at me
in the between
opening
i feel deep
inside
reach further
ask for more
wanting
longing
with a hunger
beyond my years
this is deeper still
something that started
around campfires
and freshly cooked meat
and a taking
with vigor and lust
i smell the smoke on the wind
and fall arrives
with my bed still empty
i know this feeling
an emptiness
and satisfaction
simply at being
and
doing my best
to conjure you up
